Selection Criteria

The National Treasurer must have been a member of the Theosophical Society in Good standing for the last five years at the time of their appointment. (there is scope for the National Council to reduce the years of good standing  to a minimum of three years).

Demonstrated proficiency in MYOB and Excel, with a strong ability in data analysis.

Demonstrated proficiency in Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), financial reporting practices, and a strong understanding of relevant ethical standards.  

Thorough understanding  of the preparation, consolidation, and analysis of financial statements, including balance sheets, profit & loss statements and bank reconciliations.

Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with the organization's accountant, bookkeeper, and auditor.

Demonstrated capability in interpreting financial data and delivering insightful recommendations to the Executive Committee and subsidiary committees of the Australian Section of the Theosophical Society.

Duties as set out in the National Rules

The duties of the National Treasurer are outlined in the Constitution of The TS in Australia. These include, but are not restricted to, the following:

  1. To be responsible for the supervision by the National Secretary of all matters delineated in Rule 23.4(c)(x);
  2. To furnish all financial accounts, budgets, information and balance sheets as may be required by the Executive Committee, National Council or Convention, and to be responsible for the supervision of the keeping of all proper books, records of the financial transactions of the National Society and of its assets and liabilities;
  3. To be responsible for the preparation of an annual Account of Income and Expenditure and Balance Sheet of the financial transactions and affairs of the National Society, together with a report of the year’s financial working and the Budget for the following year.

[Note - National Secretary duty stated in Rule 23.4(c)(x): Under the direction of the National Treasurer, to supervise the receipt of all moneys and their payment into such accounts of the National Society as the Executive Committee shall determine and the payment of such amounts as are authorised by the Executive Committee.]
