About the Author
Iqbal Kishen Taimni (1898–1978), a deep student and practitioner of Yoga and Theosophy, who was for many years professor of Chemistry at Allahabad University, India. In addition to many other studies, Taimni made an intensive study of Kashmir Shaivism, which informed much of his writing. Professor Taimni was awarded the Subba Row Medal for his inestimable contribution to theosophical literature.
The direct knowledge of the Reality which is hidden within the universe as well as in the heart of every human being is the ultimate object of the practice of Yoga. This Reality is beyond the realm of the mind but is hidden within the deeper recesses of the mind of every individual. That is why the mind is called the great slayer of the Real. It makes a human being unaware of the Real, in the earlier stages of our evolution, and when at a later stage we want to find this Reality, it obstructs our path at every step in many ways.
